The UCCE San Joaquin County Nutrition, Family and Consumer Science program serves thousands of San Joaquin County residents through both community education programs and participating in local and statewide University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources workgroup research projects.

Adult Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP)
Established in 1968
Federally Funded: Fiscal Year 2001-02 budget of $77,958
Nutrition Educator: Anna Olivares
Target Population: low-income families
Goal: To assist limited resource families and youth in acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and changed behavior necessary for nutritionally sound diets, and to contribute to their personal development and the improvement of the total family diet and nutritional well-being.

Adult Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (Adult FSNEP)
*  Established in 1995
Federally Funded: Fiscal Year 2001-02 budget of $73,474
Nutrition Educator: Jenny Donaldson
Target Population: food stamp applicants and recipients
Goal: To improve the nutrition-related skills of food stamp recipients, specifically those skills related to selecting, purchasing and preparing a low-cost nutritional diet for themselves and their families.

Youth Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (Youth FSNEP)
*  Established in 1997
Federally Funded: Fiscal Year 2001-02
School Outreach Garden & Nutrition Coordinators: Laress Leavens and Joyce Bishop
Target Population: Preschool through high school children in schools with 50% or more of their student body receiving free and reduced lunches
Goal:  To reach out to San Joaquin County school children through research-based nutrition curriculum that helps them make consistent, healthful food choices in their daily lives.

Gateway to a Better Life Program
Established in 1999
Collaborative train-the-trainer project of Adult Nutrition, Family and Consumer Science Programs
Life Skills Trainers: Anna Olivares and Anna Martin
Target Population: CalWORKS Job Trainers and Case Managers
Goal: To provide work skills education for San Joaquin County CalWORKS recipients either entering the workforce or currently employed

San Joaquin County Nutrition and Activity Coalition
Established in May 1999 through a California Nutrition Network grant awarded to San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Collaborative effort between community agencies, organizations, and concerned citizens
Fiscal Year 2001-02 budget ($2000) provided by UC Berkeley, Center for Weight and Health
Collaborators: San Joaquin County Public Health Services, UC Cooperative Extension San Joaquin County, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, local colleges, Stockton Parks and Recreation, San Joaquin County Office of Education, YMCA, local community and family centers, Emergency Food Bank, Kristen Watt Foundation, Pacific Complementary Medicine, and other public and private organizations.
Target Population: all San Joaquin County residents
Goal: To seek environmental and policy changes to facilitate the practice of physical activity and to promote awareness of how diet affects health in the communities of San Joaquin County.
